Portas de Ródão are a geological and geomorphological occurrence located on both banks of the river Tagus, in the municipalities of Vila Velha de Ródão and Nisa. This natural ensemble stands out for the imposing gorge excavated by the river in the quartz ridges of the Perdigão mountain range, with a narrow spanning 45 m. Besides the natural beauty, the biodiversity of fauna, avifauna and flora are also remarkable in this landscape. It is here that the largest colony of griffins in Portugal can be found and where 116 species of birds can be observed, many of them considered endangered and some rare. Notably, the black stork, the red kite, the cinereous vulture, Bonelli's eagle, the South American snipe, the Eurasian eagle-owl, the alpine accentor, and the European pied flycatcher.

Nearby, you will also find the Tagus Valley Rock Art Complex, comprising prehistoric remains of national interest discovered on the banks of the Tagus, evidence of human presence hundreds of thousands of years old.
