In the Aldeias do Xisto (Schist Villages) of Góis, the Entrudo (Shrovetide festival) was a simple affair.Old clothes and objects were used to conceal the face. The most creative and ingenious people wore a mask made from cork, the brand image of the event that still takes place today. Re-established by Lousitânea, every year this tradition enlivens the streets of the Aldeia do Xisto of Aigra Nova and neighbouring villages at Carnival time.
The initiative will take place on 19 February, from 8.30am. Aigra Nova is the starting point for the Shrove Tuesday Race. Throughout the afternoon, the schedule offers the usual activities, such as dancing, the Stick Game and the Shrove Tuesday Parade, and Queima do Entrudo, a kind of scarecrow which will be set alight.
