The deer photo hunt in the Serra da Lousã is now open!
If nature and photography are passions you share,   this is an opportunity to try and capture images of rare beauty. The aim is to capture the best photographs of deer in the wild.

This runs from September to November when the Serra da Lousã Deer population can be seen at its best. With the beginning of the mating season, sounds echo through the Lousã woods and the males lock their antlers when fighting for the attention of the females. You can follow the work of biologists who in the morning restart their censuses of this population or you can simply stroll through the Serra!

Do not be fooled if you think it is going to be easy - it is their territory, playing by the rules dictated by nature. A steady hand and a good eye is not enough. It takes instinct. The Photographic Hunt for deer in the Serra da Lousã is a competition-style even that will take place during the Deer Mating Season. However, special care should be taken to help minimise the possible impacts on this crucial period for this species.

Besides promoting photography, one of the aims of this activity is to stimulate professionals and photography lovers to capture occurrences of the diverse wildlife in the Serra da Lousã. Through the photographic record, it is intended that there can be greater appreciation, preservation and dissemination of the wildlife existing in the Serra da Lousã, particularly the deer. Along with the specific theme of the “Deer”, there will be two more themes: “Serra da Lousã Scenery” and “Fauna, Flora and Vegetation”.
