Every day, Earth is bombarded by dust from space, which enters the atmosphere and creates meteors or shooting stars. Many of these dust grains come from comets traveling near the Sun, leaving a dusty trail behind them.
When Earth crosses one of these trails during its orbit around the Sun, the dust enters the atmosphere, creating a meteor shower popularly known as shooting stars.
Every year, in mid-August, one of the best meteor showers occurs: the Perseids. At this time, several meteors can be seen streaking across the sky, appearing to radiate from a point in the constellation Perseus, hence the name.
This year, on August 11, we will observe the Perseids at the Geoscope - Astronomical Observatory of Fajão, in a journey led by astronomer José Matos. It will be a great night of shooting stars. The program also includes a workshop on digital telescopes.
Program

- 10:00 PM - 12:00 AM: Guided observation session by astronomer José Augusto Matos in the Dome.
