Guitolão

Cerdeira, Lousã
Artistic residence of the GUITOLÃO duo, made up of Carlos Barretto and António Eustáquio.

From the mind of the guitarist Carlos Paredes, made reality by the builder Gilberto Grácio, the “Guitolão” is a new musical instrument originating in Portugal. It is a chordophone, based on the Portuguese guitar, but with a lower register.

The meeting between António Eustáquio and Carlos Barretto takes place, therefore, under the aegis of this rare instrument that, in António Eustáquio’s hands, comes to life. With Carlos Barretto at his side, the final result, although hardly fitting into the canons of jazz, is very close to its main characteristics, those of authenticity and creativity.
