At the invitation of Cerdeira – Home for Creativity, the Nómada Cerámica project, featuring Argentine ceramists Martín Gastón Merlos and Julieta Bilbao, will, for the first time, visit Portugal to lead the Creating Sounds with Ceramics workshop.
Taking place from June 14 to 16, the course aims to provide participants with the necessary tools to explore the universe of sonic ceramics.
In the Aldeia do Xisto of Cerdeira, Nómada Cerámica shares their practice focused on the research and experimentation of the specific materials of each geography and encourages the connection to five elements - the dialogue between clay, water, and air, transformation through the action of fire, and the intangible incorporation of sound.
Inspired by the sonic and visual aesthetics of ancient American cultures, participants spend three days learning to build their own aerophonic instruments in Cerdeira.
In the end, besides this creative and immersive cultural experience, they take home four types of whistles, a sculptural globular flute (ocarina), and a tubular flute.
