This day will be marked by the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of its new charter, granted by King Manuel I on 4 August 1514.
The celebrations will be marked on the occasion of the annual feast in honour of S. Tiago Maior, with the aim of bringing together a greater number of Álvaro residents and other visitors around this event.
The programme is quite extensive and includes a visit by a group coming from Lisbon after a tour promoted by the Casa da Comarca da Sertã, a theatrical performance by the Companhia de Teatro Viv'arte, from 3 to 7 pm and a fireworks show.
The event is organised by the Álvaro Parish Council with the support of the Oleiros municipality.
