In the Aldeias do Xisto of the Serra da Lousã , the Entrudo (Shrovetide festival) was a simple affair. With clothes and old objects, something to disguise the body and the face, and then... they played. It was an old photograph that inspired Lousitânea to revive this tradition together with the people of the Villages! During Shrove Tuesday, there were “races” to the neighbouring villages, where everything was allowed: reciting humorous rhymes about the inhabitants of these villages, tormenting the old and seducing the young - in short, pranking. But as it’s Carnival, nobody takes this too personally! Come and play and join us.
The route will take in the following villages in the municipality of Góis: Aigra Nova, Pena, Cerdeira, and Ponte do Sótão.

At the end of this route there will be a gathering (*), in Aigra Nova, involving all the participants and local inhabitants. At the end of the meal, in true Beira style, there will be folk dancing and the “stick games”, with smoked ham and codfish offered by the Parish Council of Góis.
In the afternoon, there will also be the 2nd Edition of the Shrove Tuesday Parade, where approximately ten suitably dressed revellers will take part, singing the most valuable Shrove Tuesday songs, alluding to subjects which have been collected throughout the year from the Aldeias do Xisto of Góis and the neighbouring villages.
Also in the afternoon, there will be a competition for the best cork mask, involving specific criteria and a jury that will decide the best work. The winner will be entitled to a souvenir representative of the 12th Shrove Tuesday Race, the Corrida do Entrudo of the Aldeias do Xisto of Góis.
This event, which is in its 12th edition, will include a Workshop on the Construction of Cork Masks, in the company of a local craftsperson, Sr. José Cerdeira.
