The mountains and valleys, trails and rural roads offering their enormous beauty, and which are located between Fundão and Pampilhosa da Serra, provide the backdrop for the 9th edition of the Aldeias do Xisto Geotour. 

This mountain bike race organised by BTT Gardunha, which has already become a point of reference among cycling lovers,  will take place on 6 and 7 March 2021. Participants will cover around 180 kilometres  and a total accumulated climb of 4800 m, in two stages.  Throughout the two days,  competitors will visit parishes that form part of the Aldeias do Xisto network, as well as other remarkable villages in the region.

The first stage will start on the 29th, in Fundão, and will take the participants through the iconic Cabeço do Pião, in the  Aldeia do Xisto of Barroca  and through one of the most beautiful parts of the Great Zêzere  Route, with its special landscapes, both looking to the Estrela and Gardunha  Mountain ranges or to the Santa Luzia Dam. There are many new features on the route chosen for this first day, which has a total length  of 85km and climbing of 2200+ m, which ends in Pampilhosa da Serra. 

The  2nd stage  takes the participants back to Fundão through a  totally new route. With a  length of 90 km and climbing of over 2600+ m, it goes through the municipality of Oleiros, passing through Cambas, Estreito and crosses the Appalachian Trail. After Cardosa, it continues towards the municipality of Castelo Branco, and goes through the villages of Paiágua, Almaceda, Souto da Casa, and finishes in Fundão.   

It should be recalled that the  Aldeias do Xisto Geotour is an autonomous event, using GPS, which can be undertaken as an individual or as a pair. The rules can be consulted here.
