Agricultura Lusitana exhibition at the Louzã Henriques Ethnographic Museum

Lousã
After a journey around the world, the exhibition is now on show at the Museum that was the source of its initial inspiration, where connection to the land is examined in the light of contemporary design.

The Louzã Henriques Ethnographic Museum, in Lousã, hosts the Agricultura Lusitana 2015-2020 exhibition, promoted by ADXTUR- Schist Villages Tourism Development Agency.

The theme Agricultura Lusitana ("Lusitanian Agriculture") explores the place that agriculture has occupied in the evolution of man, in the settlement of places, in the development of artefacts, and of the rural, material and spiritual culture where much of our identity is expressed. This Museum display, which was the source of its initial inspiration, transports us to the lands of the Aldeias do Xisto through Craft+Design+Identity and spotlights the educational links between knowledge, research and sustainable development.

The reinvention of the villages’ culture alongside the people who live there is the course of action taken by the Aldeias do Xisto to create social and economic value in its target region. To do so, 9 design colleges and 22 craft workshops were invited to bring their knowledge and skills to the real world of the villages and, together, pave the way for a new economy capable of producing relevant goods and services imbued with history and identity.

This direct relationship with people, landscapes and culture was fundamental to the reflection on the villages’ identity and was the source of inspiration for the pieces displayed, which are also steeped in the emotion of all those who were involved in their creation.

Bringing young people closer to places that invest in design as a distinguishing factor for development positions the Aldeias do Xisto as a welcoming institution, a living space and the site of fulfilment. A land where you can live, feel, learn, experiment and so create new connections to the landscapes and find new opportunities for development, at the same time preserving the experience and memories of communities..

Louzã Henriques Ethnographic Museum reopens now with the return of this wonderful and rich collection.
