The Aldeia do Xisto of Janeiro de Cima is hosting another edition of the Traditional Boat Skills Challenge and the “Ó da Barca” walking trail on August 3rd.
The day begins with the “Ó da Barca” hike — a 9 km trail (medium difficulty) that takes participants through charming paths with stunning views over the Zêzere River and the impressive rocky ridges, classified as part of the World Heritage Network.
At 10:00 a.m., the Casa da Barca (Boat House) will be officially inaugurated — a symbolic moment celebrating the village’s river heritage and its strong connection to the water.
The hike ends with a communal lunch at the Parque Fluvial da Lavandeira, featuring a full menu with the traditional “Bacalhau à Saborosa” as the main dish.

From 4:30 p.m., the much-anticipated Traditional Boat Skills Challenge will bring together families and friends once again, for a moment of fun and camaraderie on the Zêzere. In the past, the boat was the only means of crossing the river — today, it remains a living symbol of Janeiro de Cima, reflecting the community’s deep connection with the river.
Participation in the hike and the boat challenge is free of charge. Lunch registration is open until August 1st at the Parish Council of Janeiro de Cima or at local shops in the village.
